Wizkid Becomes First Artist In Nigeria To Get Nominated For NAACP Awards

The NAACP awards which is basically an anual awards ceremony  presented by the U.S.-based National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to honor outstanding performances in film, television, music, and literature On Thursday morning announced its nominations  for the 51st NAACP Image Awards. The ceremony  which begins airing after the “official” end of awards season (i.e. after the Oscars), is a concept  that runs with the Colored People Time (CPT).

Ayodeji Balogun popularly known as Wizkid a.k.a Starboy is looking to hit it more bigger this 2020 as he starts off good this year. The  Multi-award winning Nigerian singer who is enjoying quite some tremendous recognition has become the first Nigerian singer to be nominated for an NAACP Image award after his ‘Brown Skin Girl’ collaboration with the queen diva herself,  Beyoncé  on the Lion King Album. The Nigerian star whose being nominated for his collaboration with the international star along with Blue Ivy, SAINt JHN and Beyoncé  falls under the category for “Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration” at the 2020 NAACP Image Awards. The “Holla at your boy” crooner stands in this category with other legendary and outstanding international artists. Here is a list;
“Brown Skin Girl” – Blue Ivy, SAINt JHN, Beyoncé & WizKiD (Parkwood Entertainment/Columbia Records)
“No Guidance” – Chris Brown feat. Drake (Chris Brown Entertainment/RCA Records)
“Say So” – PJ Morton feat. JoJo (Morton Records/EMPIRE)
“Shea Butter Baby” – Ari Lennox feat. J. Cole (Dreamville/Interscope Records)
“Show Me Love” – Alicia Keys feat. Miguel (RCA Records)

One of the biggest categories expected on the 51st NAACP awards includes; “Entertainer of the Year” boasts heavyweights, including Porter, Angela Bassett, Lizzo, Regina King and Tyler Perry. Voting is currently open to the public at the Image Awards official website.
