Very late yesterday, news of one of Africa’s most Prominent Reggae musician, the legendary Majekodunmi Fasheke popularly known as Majek Fashek was reportedly dead, the news had shocked many as Nigeria has just lost another legendary after it lost Ras Kimono. The reggae artist who is of Nigeria heritage and has in his long decade in the music industry attracted international recognition was 57 before he gave up to the ghost.
The legendary reggae musician who has had both a rough and smooth experience of life and did had a beautiful time song sometime in 1987, when he released his ever green song of all time “Send Down The Rain,” which some feel has a lot to do with his country of origin, Nigeria as at the time of release as he later was tagged and linked to being a “prophet”. Though from Osun State, born in Benin, Edo state as the musician’s paternal home is Osun state despite having being groomed by his mother who is from Edo state after the passing away of his father, Fashek unarguably remains one of the outstanding reggae artist who ill be remember even in days to come whose solo on the song ” prisoner of conscience ” sold above 200,000 copies nationwide.
Majek Fashek did developed his musical skills at an early stage as his interest Jamaican songs attracted his attention to acquiring musical skills while also getting accustomed to Indian musical cinema as he began learning to play guitar.
Fashek, whose name is identified as meaning “power of miracles, the high priest does not live”, also had some close involvement and relationship bond with the late Nigerian drummer and bandleader Fela Anikulapo Kuti.
However, reports it following the singer’s demise, as it revealed the real cause of Majek’s death as the reports revealed that the singer lost his life after battling with cancer for almost a year.
His shocking demise being announced by Joy Tongo, confirming also the news and the straight cause of the singer’s death is his manager. Uzoma Day Omenka who inintially confirmed the news of the singer’s death on Instagram page on Tuesday morning made it known to the public that he died at 11.45 pm June 1, 2020, Nigerian time.

He also confirmed the singer died in New York, not in London as was reported by some news outlet. Uzoma stated that the doctors advised he should be moved close to his family, which influenced his being moved to New York where his wife and three sons live.
He said Majek was separated from his family for 10 years until last year September when they were reunited on the advice of his doctors that he should be close to his family.
Recall that the singer’s advice was also during his rehabilitation and recovering period.. and some time this year, Ailing legendary singer, Majek Fashek’s manager, Omenka Uzoma-Day, mentioned billionaire and business mogul Femi Otedola and rapper Olamide as the only Nigerians who had come to the aid of the sick singer when he was seriously down with the undisclosed sickness at the time before his demise.
This revelation was coming after the deceased manager was threatened to return and put down Majek’s wealth and properties, however , he also revealed that he did his best to manage his health in the possible way he could even as many meaning Nigerian’s and fans of the legendary never came to support at his trying times. While the legendary enjoyed a beautiful life, he’s trying times was one of his hardest experiences as he struggled with different challenges even at the time when he was rehabilitating.
