With the decision of the court presided over by Justice Mohammed Liman, Kalu, who is the chief whip of the Senate, would be spending his Christmas and New Year at the Ikoyi prison. The former governor had applied for the bail pending the determination of an appeal against his recent conviction for fraud while in office.

The Nation reports that Justice Liman ruled that kalu failed to prove exceptional circumstances that would have made the court grant his bail request. According to the judge, the court had no evidence to really show that Kalu was actually suffering from any chronic disease like diabetes or hypertension.

While noting that Kalu would really missed at the Senate, the judge said those who voted for him should have known the risk they were taking by making him represent them at the National Assembly
