Following the backlash and slamming that trailed her statement in a YouTube video that went viral, Nollywood actress and single mother of two, Mercy Aigbe has denied encouraging ladies to be side-chicks to married men. Her video on her YouTube channel saw trolls of comment from the commenting section as so many condemned her for her statement.
Nigerians took to social media to call out the Yoruba actress after being spotted admonishing single ladies dating married men to play smart and “cash-out”. According to her on the video, she had stated that young ladies married should know that the men don’t and will not love them as they already have their woman (wife), but they have to do is take the material benefit that comes from the relationship as long as it lasts as it won’t last forever.
In her own words, she said;
“If you are a side chic to a married man, Girl, you are better be cashing out. Secure the bag, get that dough, get that money because that man isn’t yours. Sis, he isn’t yours. He belongs to another woman so please it had better be worth it. Don’t go and collect chocolate and flowers as gifts from a married man oh,” she said.
However, defending herself after the backlash that trailed the video, the actress said she was never trying to encourage girls to be side chicks to married or single men. She claimed that she was taken out of context as some parts of the video were cut off by ”mischievous persons.”
According to Mercy Aigbe, the video shared on Valentine’s Day was meant to be a fun video for everyone to laugh and also get her message. She added that she was encouraging married men to stay faithful to their wives because if they don’t, they will get extorted by their side chicks.
The actress stated that she has always told girls they can get way more than what they get from married men when they work on their own because there is dignity in labour, averring that everything she owns is from her sweat and everything said about her when the first video went viral is not who she is as she was wrongly mis-interpreted. In trying to buttress her statement over the misunderstood video she made on her YouTube channel, she made a video she had shared via her Instagram handle to explain that she never meant to encourage cheating, side chic relationship and the rest, pointed out by people.
