THE STORY OF MS. NGOZI OSUNKWU

My name is Ms. Ngozi Osunkwu.

In 2017, I noticed a swelling in my lower abdomen, so I rushed to the hospital. After all medical investigations, it was diagnosed to be Fibroid and medical surgery was promptly performed to remove it. Then two weeks later, my belly became swollen again, and I was unable to pass excreta.

The pain grew more and more and soon became unbearable. I had to undergo a scan, in which the doctors discovered that my intestine was perforated and emergency surgery was performed. As a result, the damaged part of my intestine was removed, and I was stitched up.

Then again, just after two weeks later, the area of the belly that was stitched tore open and my intestine forced itself out, leaving a very big hole from where excreta and blood gushed out, causing me severe pains and discomfort. It was traumatic for me.

At this point, even my doctors lost hope. However, I have survived even though I’m currently suffering in this agony. Life has not been easy, as I can hardly do anything for myself or about the situation.

Before now, I used to work hard and contributed immensely to the upbringing of my siblings. After the death of our parents, I took up the role of parenthood at a tender age. Unfortunately, in 2018 one of my siblings who was a medical doctor got killed by the Boko Haram terrorist group, while on a humanitarian service in Maiduguri.

Thankfully, after my medical reports were transferred to India, the doctors said there was a solution. They said they would carry out a surgery to correct the damage, but it would cost N9,000,000 (Nine Million Naira) without taking into account the cost of flight and housing.
