It’s been about three weeks since the heated call for the end of the Special Anti-Robbery squad in Nigeria who are known for their brutal mishandling of people. The call also didn’t leave the Nigerian Police force in exclusion as there are records of their brutality, unjust arrest, extortion, corruption e.t.c as many Nigerians and young Nigerians have had some ugly experience in the hands of this officers in one way or the other.
Meanwhile, the Federal government of Nigeria has alleged that the FSARS has been banned as demanded by the youths of Nigeria to introduce SWAT and also promised on the Reformation of the Nigerian Police force which many citizens have revealed the continued operation of this sets of security outfits. It could probably be said that the Federal Government are still adamant and unwilling to heed to this call that has taken the lives of many during the protest especially the blood shed of the now controversial Lagos Tollgate massacre as just recently a young Nigeria by the name Chukwemeka Basil George has been unjustly arrested by the Nigeria Police in the city of Asaba, Delta State on Wednesday evening 21st October, 2020 as he was going about his daily business with his Keke Napep which he runs to make a living aside the times he has roles to play in a movie.
The young up and coming movie actor was denied access to his family and according to the narration made by his elder Brother who was identified as FabianMary Kannaya, according to him, his younger brother has already being transferred to the prison with a group of other young guys. While narrating the unended experience on his social media handle , he wrote;
My kid brother Chukwuemeka Basil George fondly called Computer
Was kidnapped on Wednesday evening being the 21st of October 2020 by the men of the Nigeria police force Asaba, Delta State while trying to make ends meet with a Keke Napep.
They denied him access to his phone and family…
For days we’ve been searching his whereabouts but to no avail, until I suggested to my family to go find out if there was any arrest made on Keke Napep riders that very day of the incident, they did and found out there was an arrest, that was on the third day, from then they went to the A-division and saw his Keke among the others parked there…
To make this story less, the police didn’t allow family see him, we have to involve lawyer on the fifth day , it was with the help of the lawyer that we were able to get a fact that he was actually held there…
From the A-division they moved him alongside with some other innocent civilians to the police headquarters in Okpanam road still in Asaba. The lawyer got to see the statement made by the police, in the statement the police accused him alongside with few others arrested that same day of attempted murder, protesting and desiring to burn down police station.
On the 28 of October before the lawyer could get to the police headquarters in Okpanam road, they had already taken him to Ogwashi Ukwu prison and remanded him.
