BBNaija star, and business entrepreneur, Ifu Ennada has reacted to the price increment of disposable face masks by pharmacists in Lagos state. This is coming after the confirmation of the first coronavirus case in Nigeria by the ministry of Health and the the deadly COVID-19 disease. The case, which was confirmed on February 27 is the first to be reported in the country since the beginning of the outbreak the viral disease in China in January.
Following this news and confirmation, many Nigerians especially those in Lagos and Ogun state, where the first carrier of the disease is said to have touched foot are taking precautionary actions in order to avoid getting infected with the virus. And according to the ministry of health and WHO, One of the precautionary ways to avoid contacting the viral disease, is by wearing face masks and washing of your hands regularly and keeping a clean environment.
Meanwhile, seeing Nigeria the way it is, with the way traders always like to take advantage of every little opportunity that would increase their sales, appears to use this very world trialing period to make more sales and profits as sellers of these disposable face masks are using the opportunity to cash out as much as possible.
According to the BBNaija star, the face masks which used to go for N10,00 a pack is now selling for N15,000. Sharing a video of a pharmacist confirming the price to be N15,000, she stated that Nigerians are their own problems. According to her words she wrote;
“Disposable face mask now 15,000 naira! No longer 750naira or 10,000 naira which was the latest price in Lekki this morning like I reported some mins ago. This video was sent to me by one of my sisters who’s on the mainland. Nigerians, we are our own problem. I hope these Pharmacies ripping people off their money also educate them on how to use,” she wrote.
While still on the complain on the hike of the prices of the disposable face mask, Uriel Oputa, the 2017 BBNaija star, also took to her Instagram page to react on same price hike.
According to her, not only have these face mask become expensive, she stated that the price of hand sanitizers have also gone up. She accused such pharmacies selling at these prices, of aiding the coronavirus. Posting on her IG handle she wrote;
