–Benue state has recorded first case of coronavirus
-governor ortom has taken measures to ensure residents are safe
It is weird how a disease such as Covid 19 has taken the lives of thousands of people in just a glance.
Benue state government, has confirmed one positive case of coronavirus.
The news was brought to journalists in Makurdi as at yesterday 29th of march by the governor of the state, Samuel Ortom after a meeting with the state action committee on Covid 19 where they said the virus is now in their state.
The virus was confirmed by NCDC on one of the returnee from United Kingdom named Susan okpe. According to reports, the governor stated that 15 blood sample was taken to Abuja and tested for the virus at the national center for disease control, NCDC, saying that Susan okpe tested positive while others were negative.
The governor said that as part of proactive measures to prevent the spread of the disease in the state, major markets would be closed today being the 30th of march. He further stated the possibility of closing roads linking Benue and other states including the border very soon.
According to the governor, six ambulances had been made available for quick response to suspected cases of Covid 19 across the three senatorial zones of the state.
He also stated that shops and medical stores would be opened to the public with hand sanitizer placed at strategic entry locations to the shops for use by customers. He also hinted on banning of social gatherings such as weddings, funerals,worship places (mosque and churches), urging everyone to worship at home till the pandemic goes down.
He also adviced his residents to sit at home as the safest measure and avoid visiting of friends especially, returnees from outside countries..
