Akeredolu Retains His Seat As PDP’s Eyitayo Jegede Set To Challenge Result

As there were a lot of predictions and a little tension regarding the election of Ondo state. While it could have been just as expected, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared Mr Rotimi Akeredolu winner of the Ondo gubernatorial election.

The incumbent governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress in the 2020 Ondo State governorship election, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, was able to beat his closest opponent and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Eyitayo Jegede, in 12 of the 18 Local Government Areas where the election held.

According to the results gathered, Akeredolu polled 292,830 votes as against Jegede’s 195,791 votes.

INEC’s Returning Officer, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, who declared Akeredolu winner, in a statement revealed he had met all conditions required to be returned as governor-elect for the state.
However, even though the results has been declared, the PDP candidate, Jegede seem not to satisfied with the results as he seem to be heading to court to challenge the results declared.
