The South-East aspirants in the upcoming 2023 Presidential election has formed an alliance “to work as a team.”
The aspirants, after about 4 hours meeting in Abuja on Saturday, agreed to work together “in the interest of Nigeria, the PDP, and the South-East zone.”

The aspirants in attendance includes; Peter Obi (former Anambra state governor), Anyim Pius (former Senate president), Maxi Sam Ohuabunwa, and Nwa Anakwenze, an American-based Medical doctor.
Speaking through Anyim Pius, who was also a former Secretary General to the Federation, the group called on other South-East aspirants to come together and join them:
“It is to our knowledge that more aspirants may have obtained forms under PDP and we hope they will join us later.”
They also demanded that the PDP should zone the ticket to South-East:
“We intend to consult with other zones on this issue and it is based on fairness and equity.
“In doing so, it is important to note that we have always supported other zones and we now expect them to reciprocate.”
Responding on the question of a concensus candidate:
“When we get to the bridge, we will cross it. We will work together in the interest of the Party, in the interest of the nation and in the interest of the South East.”
However, when asked whether the South-East PDP governors supports their alliance, the group said that “the governors has a right to their opinion and decision.”
